“The average person spends a great deal of time sitting in chairs and sofas. Therefore, it is very important to choose furnishings that are built using sound ergonomic principles. Ekornes uses those very principles and that is why the ACA (American Chiropractic Association) is proud to endorse Stressless seating by Ekornes.” February 2003.
Many of us sit for a living, type away at a computer keyboard, make phone calls, or just talk. In the word-speak of Canadian born author Marshall McLuhan, a chair becomes a tool and an extension of the human body, not just a place to sit.
Stressless Patented Features
The unique sitting comfort of Stressless lies within its beautiful exterior with patented features you won’t find on other recliners.
First, the Glide system that follows your slightest movements. As the chair glides to recline, the lumbar area curves outward to offer continual support of the lower back area. Combined with the Plus system for correct neck and lumbar support in every position, allowing for easy reading, television watching or net surfing, and with a quick snap of the headrest, it lies flat for maximum relaxation.
A history of innovation
It was 1971. The digital microprocessor was invented, but nobody knew what to do with it. Walt Disney opened its World Theme Park in Florida. The United States and Great Britain lowered the voting age to eighteen. A Dodge Charger sold for $3,600 and a three bedroom home in Chicago for less than $20,000.
And, …
Stressless made its first recliner and the first real TV chair. You could lean backwards, rest, watch TV in comfort or turn around to face family and friends with one easy movement. Everyone wanted to try out its patented sliding system. Of course, television was ABC, NBC, and CBS.
ABC cancels The Lawrence Welk Show after sixteen years on the network, and CBS begins All in the Family. NBC aired the Flip Wilson Show which was number two in the ratings after All in the Family.
Ten years later
Stressless has always kept up with the pace of innovation. Ten years later, Stressless adopted the distinctive hour-glass shape of its Classic base. Today, choose from seven wood finishes.
In 1991, it added its patented Plus™ system, with its pioneering automatic adjustment of the headrest and lumbar support.
At last, one could stretch out using the body’s natural motion and read and watch TV leaning back in a recliner.
Five years later, Stressless became the first manufacturer to recognize that size matters. Simply put, people with different builds have to have different chair sizes in order to sit comfortably. Stressless started to make the same design in sizes small, medium, and large. A perfect fit is always the goal at Stressless.
Next, Stressless added the Sleep function, an extension of the unique Plus System, whereby one can choose whether the headrest is in the reading or sleeping mode when the chair reclines. To relax, perchance to sleep after reading Shakespeares Hamlet or just watching Monday Night Football.
The year 2015 saw the introduction of the new Signature base, which stylishly combines chrome with wood accents. This feature is equipped with new BalanceAdapt comfort technology, which rocks and reclines smoothly by balancing the user’s body weight.
